Nelson Wright

Seattle-based, Nelson has spent most of his musical life in bands—folk bands, roots rock bands, bluegrass bands, and more. His solo career started in 2012 with the release of Still Burning, an album of ten original songs that harkened back to his folk music days and elicited great reviews ("'s poetic, it's melodic, it's timeless," wrote Jean-Jacques Corrio in Le Cri du Coyote).

His attachment to Americana started in rural upstate New York, where roots music got under his skin and sparked his playing, writing, and gigging. His first exposure came from earlier generations of folk musicians who haunted the coffeehouses of Greenwich Village, and inspiration spiraled out from there.

Nelson’s most recent project, Orphans & Relics, is an ambitious album of nine original songs spanning American roots music—country blues, folk, rockabilly, electric blues, jazz—resulting in a true Americana album. Listed in The Roots Music Report Top 100 Folk Albums for 2014, it has captured some exceptional press (“…like listening to a plate of T Bone Burnett,” wrote AltCountry).
